What good is a car that has run out of gas - a great place to take a nap!

What good is your car when it runs out of gas - Well - a nice place to take a nap!

In doing some research tonight, specifically about rest - which we know is important - we often push ourselves to a melt down. But we feel guilty when we do not get it all done.

I found this scripture - and inserted my translation! Don't judge me folks - I am keeping it real.

Psalm 55:6 New International Version (NIV)
I said, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove!
I would fly away and be at rest."
My translation - Oh how nice it would be to fly away as peaceful and quietly as a dove (with no one noticing) swiftly (right now) and take a nap. How quickly can I get some! CAN I GET AN AMEN?

But really friends - we push until we are out of gas sometimes and then we are worthless to ourselves and anyone else.

I'm guilty as charged on the pushing through side and often feel even more guilt when I say - "I'm not cooking tonight"  or "those chores can wait".

I found some quotes by some incredible people . . .

  • Rest time is not waste time. It is economy to gather fresh strength… It is wisdom to take occasional furlough. In the long run, we shall do more by sometimes doing less.” Charles Spurgeon
  • “God, you have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless till they find their rest in you.” Augustine
  • “Rest is a matter of wisdom, not law.” Woodrow Kroll

Now for my favorite resource -

Mark 6:31 New International Version (NIV)

31 Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
How many of you ate lunch at your desk today, or in your car on commute, or forgot to eat at all.  Did you set down and enjoy dinner, or did we gulp it down to get on to the next chore!  I know I am guilty of all of the before mentioned.
If the Lord Jesus spoke these words to the disciples (Mark 6:31) - and we are supposed to be disciples of Christ - then why are we feeling guilty about taking some time to rest - or be quiet, slow down and renew.  His words are good enough and I will try my best to obey a little better.  How about you?  What will you do to find some quiet rest time this week?
Love and hugs friends!  Now go rest!
Dear Heavenly Father,
Help me to slow down, not just so I can rest, but also so that I can slow down to hear your voice.  If I am so busy your voice gets drowned out.  If I do not get rest I cannot continue to serve you and those around me.  May I find my rest in you.
In Jesus name we pray and ask these things.  Amen
